Green smoothies

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

The way you start off your day can affect your whole mood for the rest of the day. That is why you should start your day right, and what better way to start by drinking an extremely healthy and tasty, green smoothie, bursting with nutrients and flavour? Adding leafy greens to your morning smoothie not only turns your smoothies into my favourite colour, but has so many benefits to your physical well-being.

If you’re skipping breakfast because you’re intermittent fasting, you can still enjoy a green smoothie any other time during your busy day. Drinking a green smoothie every day ensures you have at least one serving of your daily fruit and veg intake, but it can also help with:

  • Enhancing nutrient absorption

  • Increasing energy

  • Promoting clear, radiant and glowy skin

  • Improving digestion and metabolic function

  • Boosting the immune system

  • Healthier bones and heart

  • Improving mental clarity and focus

  • Promoting natural weight loss

  • Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol

  • Reducing sweet cravings and unnecessary cravings

  • Improving hydration

The awesome thing is that in addition to providing you with all these health benefits, green smoothies are also super easy to prepare! So grab your blender and get started when you have a couple minutes to spare!

  1. Decide on what ingredients you want to add to your smoothie. Start by choosing your leafy greens such as spinach, kale or lettuce. Then, consider adding another fruit to balance out the flavour of the leafy green ;) I recommend bananas, pineapple, mango or apples or even a combination of all four. If you can, adding frozen fruit makes the smoothie smooth and creamy. Additionally, don’t forget to select your liquid. Milk or alternative milk gives a milkshake texture, while picking water gives a more juice-like consistency.

  2. If you want, you can add more flavor, more sweetness, more texture, or more nutritional value with all kinds of added ingredients. This can include seeds, protein powders, natural sweeteners, nuts or nut butters, oils or spices.

  3. Blend and enjoy!

Here’s the recipe for my personal favourite peanut butter, banana and spinach smoothie which you would never be able to guess is a green smoothie with your eyes closed.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond/oat milk

  • 2 cups baby spinach

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 2 generous tablespoons creamy peanut butter
